Gap Theory

Was there a Pre-Adam Earth?

When you read Genesis 1: 1-2 The Bible uses words like formless and empty, form and void, waste and void. We know that the God of the Bible is not a God of chaos. Some believe in a term called the Gap Theory. The belief is there was another earth that existed prior to the creation of Adam.

Below is what Genesis 1:1-2 says in the New International, King James, and American Standard Version. If you read these verses in the different Bible versions, they all basically use words that denote the earth went through a period of some type of destruction.

Genesis 1: 1-2 (NIV)

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. 2 Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.

Genesis 1: 1-2 (KJV)

In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.

Genesis 1: 1-2 ASV)

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. And the earth was waste and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep: and the Spirit of God [a]moved upon the face of the waters.

According to the cosmogonies of Greece and Rome, the universe sprang from chaos. (Chaos refers to the void state preceding the creation of the universe or cosmos in the Greek creation myths, or to the initial “gap” created by the original separation of heaven and earth.)

Science tells us the world was created via the Big Bang Theory. Much of what we have been taught in some churches is based on Greco-Roman theology.

How is it that we have creation that is dark and without form and void before the entrance of sin? How is there corruption and chaos before sin?

Gen 1:1 it says: In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth but scripture never affirms that the heavens and earth were created in six days. The Bible clearly states what was created within the 6 days. God, then, in the beginning, created the heaven and the earth, not merely the materials out of which they were afterward formed. How this wonderful work was accomplished we are not told but it may be that the creative power of God has a very dim analogy in the beings who were made after his image, an analogy in the beings who were made after His image.

In the beginning, the heavens and the earth are not said to be molded, fashioned, or to be made from the material but were created. The word for created is (ba•ra) God is calling these things into existence from nothing. The earth and the heavens were created from nothing but the items created during the six days were created from the items within the earth.

The heaven mentioned in verse 1 of Genesis is the stary heaven, not the firmament immediately surrounding the earth. God spoke it into existence. There was no Big Bang or creation out of chaos as we are taught.

When God created man, he was created from the dust of the earth. Created from something. But the real man, his spirit, was created from nothing.

The body is merely the outward casing that enables us to deal with our surroundings/environment. God created an earth suit so we can exist on this earth realm.

When we look at Gen1:2 the word used for formless is (to•hu) which means confusion, and we know the God of the Bible is not a God of confusion.

Gen1:1 is the 1st event of creation, but not part of the 6-day creation.

Gen1:2 begins with the word “AND” in this case AND is a COPULATIVE (joining together coordinate words or word groups and expressing addition of their meanings. Verse 1 and 2 are two separate thoughts.

When we look at Jeremiah 4:23 it uses the same words as in Gen1:2

JER 4: 23 I beheld the earth, and, lo, it was without form, and void; and the heavens, and they had no light.

When we see the words (to•hu & va•vo•hu) used, it is to describe when God destroys something (destruction).

When God created the heavens and the earth, it was (to•hu) we see a pre-Adam world that was destroyed by God.

Look at Jeremiah 4: 25-26
25 I beheld, and, lo, there was no man, and all the birds of the heavens were fled.

26 I beheld, and, lo, the fruitful place was a wilderness, and all the cities thereof were broken down at the presence of the Lord, and by his fierce anger.

If there was no man (No Adam) who built the cities?

The earth was already in existence and destroyed by God.

Look at Isa 45: 18

18 For thus saith the Lord that created the heavens; God himself that formed the earth and made it; he hath established it, he created it not in vain, he formed it to be inhabited: I am the Lord; and there is none else.

Isaiah 45:18 is telling us that God did not create the earth in vain, chaos (to•hu) that the events of Gen1:2 God destroyed a Pre-Adam earth.

God is telling us in Isaiah that He did not create the earth in vein.

God formed the earth to be inhabited. Not formless and void.

We know God does not make mistakes.  so therefore, we have one of two possibilities

  • The translators made a mistake and did not compare Isa 45:18 & Gen1:2
  • Or was it purposely mistranslated

We know the Freemasons, secret societies have a secret and one of those secrets is the creation of the world.

When science tells us, the earth is millions of years old, that may be exactly true because there is room for any length of time between Gen1:1 & Gen1:2

Since we have no inspired account of the geological formations, we are at the liberty to believe the earth was developed in the order we find them. The whole process took place in a pre-Adam time with a connection of another race of beings that consequently at present DOES NOT CONCERN US.

Science tells us the earth is millions of years old and Eurocentric Christianity says the earth is only 6,000 years old but that is not what the scriptures teach. It is highly possible the earth is millions of years old but MAN is only 6,000 years old. This is because the earth is a re-creation and we don’t know how much time has passed.

This could be where we get the case for fairies, dinosaurs, dragons, and other mythological creatures because they lived on pre-Adam earth. Some say an antediluvian era (Time before the flood).

Before you discard all this as crazy and ridiculous let’s look at the word Ooparts.

Ooparts (Out of place Artifacts). An out-of-place artifact is an artifact of historical, archaeological, or paleontological interest found in an unusual context, which challenges conventional historical chronology by its presence in that context.

Go to http://www.ancient-wisdom.com/ooparts.htm to see some of the many Ooparts.

One of the many Ooparts found was a skeleton the size of a human thumb. It has a head, ribcage, legs and arms but is the size of a human thumb.

Although God had a re-creation, these Ooparts still existed on the earth.

God gave people like me that love to learn a little knowledge of what happened but God doesn’t need to tell us everything because this is not important. What’s important is Adam and restoring mankind through his son Jesus Christ.
