Emotions Vs. Faith
Many are dealing with the thought of contracting the virus COVID-19 or a higher level of anxiety due to the virus. Truth be told, anxiety is a virus unto itself. For those that deal with higher levels of anxiety beyond the norm, know what I’m talking about. Anxiety effects our emotions, confuses our heart, our mind drums up images of what could or will happen and what are we going to do about tomorrow and on and on and on.
We’re in a state of disruption because our “NORMAL” has been disrupted in an assaulting kind of way. It wasn’t by choice or in a gradual manner. It was upon us suddenly and now everything we call normal has suddenly changed and it is these times that our Faith comes under question.
So here is the challenge. So many of us walk in our emotions and not our faith. And it is not revealed until a real storm enters into our life. Now is when we truly see how much of our walk with God is based on our emotions and circumstances and how much is based on raw faith in God.
Aggressive Faith Vs. Passive Faith
Faith works within the parameters of God’s purpose. Faith raises the dead, heals the sick, turns water into wine, heals the woman with the issue of blood, and calms the storm when Peter was on the boat. This is aggressive faith.
When the conditions are persisting but you still believe in God. An example in the Old Testament is when the 3 Hebrew boys said even if God doesn’t rescue us from the furnace, we still know he is able. This is Passive faith. This type of faith is built purely on God regardless if you see results.
Most of us are familiar with the apostle Thomas whom is nicknamed “Doubting Thomas” because he said he would not believe in the resurrection of Jesus unless he put his finger in his wounds. John 20:25. Even a non-believer can believe in God when they see miracles in the natural, such as splitting of the sea in the book of Exodus. But what sets some apart is believing or having Faith when we don’t have the evidence to back it up. When Jesus appeared in the upper room, He said to Thomas, blessed be those that have faith and have not seen.
We must not let our conditions define our faith. God is allowing our normalcy to be shaken to expose our vulnerabilities in our natural and our spiritual. Sometimes God must shake us to get our attention and help us get back on track. And that track is different for all of us.
We like to separate ourselves by race, color, religion or culture but no matter which of those categories we use to separate ourselves from others, we all come into the same door to God through faith. Faith is not based on Feelings or Emotions because they can’t be trusted. God fixed it so we live by Faith and not by emotions, intellect, or by economics.
We are all born with a level of Faith
Romans 12:3 says God dealt to everyman the measure of faith. We all may not know how or may need to be taught or mentored but we were all born with faith. Regarding COVID-19, we will receive all types of reports from different sources and we will not know what to believe and it is at those moments we must lean on God and Faith so strongly.
The book of Hebrews is considered the book of Faith so for those of you that need or want help with your faith I recommend reading the Book of Hebrews.
Anyone that knows me knows I’m no cook but if I had all the ingredients on the table to make a cake and said I’m going to make a cake, you would believe because most know the ingredients needed to make a cake. So when a traumatic time like now comes into your life we should not get overly anxious. Because we have the ingredients within us to know we will get through this blip in our moment of time and that ingredient is FAITH. We may need to make some adjustments or make uncomfortable decisions, upgrade, downgrade whatever but we know that when this is over we will come through it like a diamond.
Remember, a diamond can’t be formed until pressure is applied.
