Jesus often spoke in parables. Parables weren’t for teaching but for conceiling. When you look at the parable of the ten virgins, the more I read the parable the more I’m inclined to think this parable is for now. Below I will provide the parable and then give my opinion. Anyone reading this, please give your thoughts and opinions.
Matthew 25: 1-13
- At that time the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom.
- In the Bible, the number 10 is used on many occasions to signify testimony, law and responsibility. The number 10 is seen as a complete and perfect number, and it is used 242 times throughout the Bible.
- Five of them were foolish and five were wise.
- The Number Five: Bible Numerology Code. The number 5 in Biblical numerology symbolizes the creation of God, as the person has five fingers, five toes and five senses. Number 5 symbolizes the God’s grace. Father, Son, Spirit, Creation, Redemption are the 5 sacraments.
- The foolish ones took their lamps but did not take any oil with them.
- The belief is that oil represents the Holy Spirit.
- Lamps or torches were used in connection with marriage ceremonies ( Matthew 25:1 ). This word is also frequently metaphorically used to denote life, welfare, guidance, etc. ( 2 Samuel 21:17 ; Psalms 119:105 ; Proverbs 6:23 ; 13:9 ).
- Based on the fact lamp represents (life, welfare, guidance) the ten virgins represents our life on earth and the lamp is how we walk through life and the choices we make.
- The reason the 5 are foolish is because they don’t have oil and the oil represents the Holy Spirit. Proverbs 1:7 says The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and instruction
- The wise ones, however, took oil in jars along with their lamps.
- The wise one’s are those that have received the Holy Spirit and walk with God in their life
- The bridegroom was a long time in coming, and they all became drowsy and fell asleep.
- People always say they have heard the Lord is coming for centuries so many people don’t think Jesus is coming anytime soon. Therefore everyone has moments in their life that they are not seeing the lateness of the hour. Everyone thinks their’s always tomorrow
- “At midnight the cry rang out: ‘Here’s the bridegroom! Come out to meet him!’
- 1 Thes 5: 2
The thief comes upon people in the night season, when they are asleep and unprepared; so, in a similar manner, when Christ comes, he will find the world unprepared and not expecting his advent - Rev3:3
- – Remember therefore how thou hast received and heard, and hold fast, and repent. If therefore thou shalt not watch, I will come on thee as a thief, and thou shalt not know what hour I will come upon thee–Those that say No Man Knows the Day or the Hour are not paying attention and not watching the Signs of The Times
- The time of Jesus return will not be as a thief in the night for the “Saved” only the un-saved and believers that are not taking the time to read GOD’s word and be prepared and being watchful
- 1 Thes 5: 2
- “Then all the virgins woke up and trimmed their lamps.
- When Jesus does return, everyone will see it
- The foolish ones said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil; our lamps are going out.’
- The people (foolish) that thought believing in Christ is foolish. They didn’t believe in salvation but now they are scrambling because what they thought was false they now realize has been TRUTH
- “‘No,’ they replied, ‘there may not be enough for both us and you. Instead, go to those who sell oil and buy some for yourselves.’
- You don’t need to see a priest or pastor to receive salvation but in this case maybe the virgins with the oil said we’ve been telling you this forever. Since you didn’t believe, go see a pastor/priest
- “But while they were on their way to buy the oil, the bridegroom arrived. The virgins who were ready went in with him to the wedding banquet. And the door was shut.
- Folks that didn’t believe and now they realize Jesus is real are racing to be accepted but it is too late
- “Later the others also came. ‘Lord, Lord,’ they said, ‘open the door for us!’
- “But he replied, ‘Truly I tell you, I don’t know you.’
- Those that were not ready when Jesus appeared now have to wait for his return at Armageddon
- “Therefore keep watch, because you do not know the day or the hour.
- We may not know the day or hour but if we study and search a matter out we will recognize the season. Since Jesus fulfills all the Spring feast during his lifetime, my thought is he will fulfill all the Fall feast during his 2nd return
- We don’t have to know the day or hour but if we realize the season we will be ready when the day and hour approaches
